Tubular cable lugs: a classic standard type product
Used more frequently than DIN compression cable lugs, these so-called standard tubular cable lugs also consist of electrolyte copper and are sold by various manufacturers. Due to their dimensions and length, these tubular cable lugs differ from DIN cable lugs - they are usually shorter than the DIN compression cable lugs and have other tube dimensions.
However, the durability of the electrical and mechanical connection is not impaired by the shorter tube. As a result of the different tube dimensions, it is not generally possible to process all conductor classes according to DIN EN 60228 in it. Only stranded conductors can generally be processed with the tubular cable lug using hexagonal crimping. This is linked to the properties of fine stranded conductors. It is also possible to crimp fine stranded conductors using indent-like crimping profiles. Other crimping profiles can also be used, which we will describe in greater detail in the chapter entitled “Overview of crimping profiles”. It is, of course, also possible to process sectional stranded conductors in these cable lugs. To do this, the conductor must be pre-rounded with the right sleeves and turntable dies. Unlike DIN compression cable lugs, the benefit of tubular cable lugs relates to their production costs. Less copper is required for the tubular cable lugs, which is reflected in the production costs.
Unlike DIN compression cable lugs, tubular cable lugs do not have any crimp markings due to the different crimping profiles. The tubular cable lug is, of course, also available as a 45° and 90° angled version, as well as connectors displaying the same properties in processing.
