Technology is fun

In the first week of the Easter vacations, six students from grades 8 and 9 were able to immerse themselves in the world of electromobility.

Over four days in the Klauke training workshop, they learned how to build a functional electric car from scratch - from manufacturing the components to installing the specially manufactured DC motor to the final assembly.

Not only were practical skills in electrical engineering and material processing taught, but modern production methods such as 3D printing, turning and milling were also applied under the expert guidance of our trainees and working students.

In addition to the practical activities, the students were able to take a look behind the scenes at Klauke and learn about many different training and career prospects in an industrial company.

The young inventors proudly presented their finished models at the joint final race. Everyone involved drew a consistently positive conclusion. "Projects like this show how exciting technology can be when you experience it for yourself. By the final assembly steps at the latest, the sparkle in their eyes was impossible to miss," reports Judith Kumbruch (HR, Klauke).

The next zdi vacation course at Klauke is already planned. It will take place in the first week of the summer vacation from 14.07.-18.07.2025. Registrations can be made via the website zdi-best.de.

Additional information about the zdi:

The zdi project at Klauke is part of a state-wide initiative to spark interest in STEM professions at an early age. The zdi Center BeST project has been run by the University of Wuppertal since 2008 and is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the North Rhine-Westphalia Regional Directorate of the Federal Employment Agency. The Bergisches Schul-Technikum gives committed companies in the Bergisch city-triangle the opportunity to acquire young talent as part of the project and supplements existing activities to get young people interested in scientific and technical careers at an early stage. Participation in all courses at the Bergisches Schul-Technikum is voluntary and free of charge for pupils.
