Environmental and sustainability
Environmental and resource management at all company levels is of paramount importance to the Klauke Group. We perceive this as an opportunity to become even more innovative and better. We carry this responsibility - for our customers, our employees and our children.
Environmental management system certified to ISO 14001:2004
Since 2003, we have participated in the "Ökoprofit" [Ecoprofit] project of the 3-city region in North Rhine Westphalia, the aim of which is to preserve energy and resources while making cost savings. Today, we are certified to DIN EN ISO 14001:2004. This internationally valid standard defines globally recognised standards for environmental management systems. It focuses primarily on a continuous improvement process.
Therefore we have established clearly defined goals:
- Avoidance of waste and errors
- Increased efficiency and
- the lowest possible energy consumption in every production phase,
with the aim to sustain of sustaining raw materials, fossil fuels and the environment for future generations.
You can find the certification on our download site.
Principles of environmental protection and occupational health and safety
Klauke is an environmentally-conscious and responsible company. That's why we live and act accordingly to the principles which reflect this. We also expect our service providers and suppliers to observe all the relevant health and safety and environmental regulations. In doing so, we are guided by Klauke Principles (pdf)
Conflict Mineral Questionnaire for Suppliers
Moreover, we require our suppliers to prove that the raw materials they deliver/process do not come from regions where they are mined by child labour, under generally unacceptable conditions, and where the profits might be used to finance armed conflicts. You can furnish this proof by filling out the Conflict Mineral Questionnaire and returning it to us.

Using resources correctly
Of course, resource management is also very important to us. We take all the necessary steps to ensure that only top class materials and components are procured. That is why we only work with certified suppliers. In combination with our strict quality management system, we can thereby safeguard our procurement, product and service standards over the long-term.
We also invest regularly in new systems and optimise processes to save energy and relieve the burden on the environment. Saving measures already implemented include:
- 2007 / 2008: Optimisation of heating times and heating flow temperatures
- 2008: Use of compressor waste heat to support the heating process
- 2008 / 2009: Installation of energy-saving lamps in the production area
- 2010: Shorter maintenance intervals for the ceiling fans
- From 2011: Conversion to LED lighting outdoors and in corridors
- 2012: New compressor system with heat exchangers at every compressor to support the heating process
- 2013/2014: Installation of a new heating system with four solar collectors for hot water and central heating backup.
- 2015: Klauke buys its first electric car with multiple-vehicle charging station
Through these measures, we have lowered energy consumption by an average of 30 % since 2009.
Product-related environmental protection - avoiding hazardous substances
Ecologically sound products are essential to our understanding of sustainable development. Starting with the supplier chain, we make sure that all components and materials respect environmental limit values and that we observe the directives.
In the sense of the REACh-Regulation No. 1907/2006 (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) the Klauke group is considered a downstream user without registration requirements. As per EU-Regulation No. 1907/2006 paragraph 33 suppliers of products have to fulfil certain information requirements about substances along the supply chain.
In a so called candidate list according to paragraph 59 sec. 1 there have been published substances of very high concern (SVHC).
We would like to ask you, our suppliers to check whether the products sold to Klauke group contain any of the substances of the candidate list with thresholds which might exceed 0,1 % mass percent.
Further information about the candidate list can be found here: http://echa.europa.eu/de/candidate-list-table
Safety Data Sheets
In the future Safety Data Sheets will not only required for "hazardous" substances and preparations but also for persistent bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT) substances and very persistent and very bioaccumulative (vPvB) substances and preparations which contain those substances in concentrations > 0,1 mass%. We request our suppliers to submit an updated Safety Data Sheet acc. to REACh article 31 with annex II without further notice.
Hazardous Substances List
Legal and customer specific demands in respect of environmental friendly products increase continuously. This requires close cooperation with you as a supplier. The ‘hazardous Substances List’ contains substances which use is banned by law. The list provides a facilitated abstract of legal bans and restrictions about putting into the market dangerous substances in the EU and in other countries. This list contains an incomplete but for the Klauke group relevant selection of substances. Some substances have legal bans on specific applications or on the other hand special exemptions are permitted. Observing the ‚Hazardous substances list’ constitutes an important part of the conditions of delivery, so please download the list of prohibited substances (pdf) file.

Directive 2011/65/EC (RoHS)
The RoHS guideline 2011/65/EC (Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment) dated June 8th, 2011 Manufacture's must ensure that from July 1st, 2006 new electrical and electronic equipment put on the market does not contain more than 0.1 percent lead by weight of mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) and 0.01 percent by weight of cadmium per homogeneous material. Exemptions for specific applications are listed in the annex of the guideline. The RoHS II Compliance is confirmed in the CE declaration and documented the tool by the CE sign.

End-of-Life Vehicle Directive
Since 2007, 85% of all automotive parts have had to be recyclable. As stipulated by the EU Directive for the automotive industry and its suppliers. Furthermore, the use of numerous substances that are harmful to both health and the environment, including lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and mercury, is forbidden. Klauke supports this directive and uses none of the stated substances for its products.

Product-related environmental protection - encouraging reuse
The course for a component's further use is set long before a component finally reaches the end of its useful life. Even during the tool development phase, we plan and design our products and their components for a high reuse and recycling quota.
Directive 2012/19/EG (WEEE)
The guideline 2012/19/EG intended to limit the amount of waste from electrical and electronic equipment. Material recycling, energy recycling and other efficiencies are promoted. Recycling rates were determined which vary from product group to product group and which must be complied with by December 31st, 2006. The manufacturer's must guarantee the collection, the treatment and the recycling of those units mentioned in annex IA of the WEEE guideline for those products which have been put on the market after August 13th, 2005.
Klauke has no legal obligation to take care of their WEEE outside Germany unless the product has been shipped and invoiced from inside your country by Klauke. Please contact your distributer to find out more how to get your tool recycled environmentally friendly.
